Weight gain isn’t always quite this simple. As we age, our hormones continue to change , even your body’s growth hormone (GH) decreases at a rate of 15 percent for every decade of adult life. This hormone is directly related to a healthy metabolism, exercise capacity, lower levels of fat accumulation, and muscle maintenance. A decline correlates to less insulin like growth factor (IGF-1), a hormone which assists with fat modulation and glucose metabolism. These are the main reasons we struggle to lose weight as we age!
